Who It’s Made For
This product is ideal for new moms-to-be but can also be used by seasoned mothers who want to be better prepared for postpartum this time around. The Planner is designed for mamas who like a natural approach to wellness, including alternative medicine and holistic health for the mind and body.
The links within this Planner will direct you to American websites so the Planner is best suited to moms living within the U.S. However, all other planning aspects can be used by mothers around the world.
I highly recommend it as a baby shower gift, as many moms-to-be have not thought much about preparing for postpartum!
Why Postpartum Planning is Imperative
Traditionally, mothers were cared for incredibly well after giving birth, and in many cultures across the world, this is still true today! These cultures recognize that carrying a child through pregnancy, giving birth, and often nourishing that newborn baby with one’s own body is not only a major feat and a burden on the body, but also something to be honored. Extended families take over the mother’s responsibilities so she can focus on her baby and her healing journey, and they provide nourishing meals and rituals to help fortify her. While that experience is (unfortunately) rare today in the United States, we can still reclaim the preparation and care that is necessary for this sacred postpartum period. By planning for postpartum, we can ensure that we get the care we need and the time we deserve with our babies, and finish the postpartum period feeling rejuvenated and ready to not only care well for our families, but to feel like whole, healthy individuals.
How to Use the Planner
You can choose to either print the Planner and fill it out by hand, or add your own text boxes to the PDF and complete it on your computer or tablet.
I recommend getting started as early in your pregnancy as you can, since you will also be busy preparing for baby. If you find this Planner later in your pregnancy, I still encourage you to do as much planning as you can, and the linked resources will still be incredibly helpful to you, even if you’re using them after baby has already arrived.

Note From the Author : Why I Created This Planner
When I was pregnant with my daughter, I knew a little bit about the importance of preparing for postpartum. To take some of the load off of my future self, I prepared 30+ freezer meals in my third trimester and I did a little research on postpartum to be mentally prepared. However, my focus was definitely more on newborn care than caring for myself while recovering from childbirth.
The freezer meals were an incredible lifesaver that I was so thankful for when I was unable to put my newborn daughter down but really needed a meal. However, in many ways I was not prepared and was not a good advocate for myself.
My first year with a new baby was a struggle. We experienced breastfeeding challenges and extreme sleep deprivation and had little help. I suffered from incontinence and felt incredibly depleted. I needed help but didn’t know who to ask and I didn’t want to burden anyone else. Visitors came and left me feeling even more exhausted from hosting them.
When I could have been recovering and bonding with my baby, I spent a lot of time scouring the internet for resources and professionals related to the challenges we were experiencing. I ended up going to pelvic floor therapy to address my incontinence, a naturopath to replenish my nutrient stores, and realized that my daughter had undiagnosed oral ties and reflux that affected breastfeeding and sleep.
Fast forward to the birth of my son two years later. Again, I prepared tons of freezer meals and snacks. But this time, I was more confident in asking for help from my support system and it made all the difference. I also had a better idea of who to reach out to for help with breastfeeding and other challenges, saving us months of struggles like we had the first time around. I continued working with my naturopath and recovered much more quickly. I had an exercise program picked out and the equipment I needed ready to go. I worked with a maternal mental health counselor and met with her virtually to deal with postpartum anxiety. It felt like the postpartum haze passed much more quickly this time, and I had more energy to care for my growing family and myself, as well as to enjoy my new baby.
I created this Planner to be the resource every mama needs in order to prepare for a joyous postpartum experience. I know you will get incredible value out of it and your postpartum self will thank you for your organization and thoughtful preparation!
Imagine …
Your beautiful baby has entered the world and you could not be more overjoyed. Recovery after birth is real, but you have all the supplies you need to help you feel rejuvenated as quickly as possible. You are able to rest and spend time with your baby, knowing that your household responsibilities are being taken care of by your support system. Your milk supply is abundant and nutritious. You crave a hearty, nourishing meal, and you’re thanking your pregnant self for preparing a freezer full of delicious meals you can effortlessly throw into the Instant Pot and enjoy within the hour. If any challenge arises, you have a list of professionals you can reach out to and you know exactly who to call. You planned for these expenses, so you have enough money in your savings to pay for the services you need. Naturally, your loved ones want to come admire your baby, and they bring you a hot meal and fold your laundry before they leave. You are feeling nourished, content, peaceful, and cared for, allowing you to be fully present to bond with your baby.
